About THERESA LILLIAN

THERESA LILLIAN
I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and have always felt a deep connection to people from all walks of life.

For me, painting is an opportunity to speak without words. It is the intense expression of emotion that frees the heart and soul.

For the past 11 years, I have been painting figures without faces. The ‘faceless people’ emerged after New York was attacked on September 11, 2001. My mother and two nephews were in the first tower when it was hit. My son was also working in the area. Thankfully, they all survived. I feel truly blessed. Although, the lives of my family and friends were greatly affected, I was inspired and invigorated by a renewed sense of unity. People come together in time of need. It doesn't matter what color, religion, or status. The faceless people represent our spiritual connection.

My paintings seek to reflect the thought that we are all connected and whatever choices we make in our lives, affects the lives of everyone else. I truly believe we all have a unique purpose on earth - and if we keep an open heart and mind, that purpose will be revealed. There is nothing more important than living a life of purpose and feeling the passion of being alive. Life is a gift and each day a miracle.

In my latest series of work, I use found objects, things people throw away, coffee filters, old cd's, jewelry, mirror, etc - as a way of preserving the world we live in. One person's junk or garbage is another persons inspiration for creation.

Although the style of my work continues to evolve, what remains constant is my deep need to create and to share the journey.
